News / Fisherman dies off Yell

A SIXTY year old fisherman from Shetland died this afternoon (Saturday) in a tragic accident after being thrown overboard from the Whalsay based creel boat Flying Cloud (LK983).
The 23ft vessel with two crew on board was working near the Muckle Skerry of Neapaback, off Burravoe in Yell, when the accident happened at around 2pm.
Shetland Coastguard was alerted at 2.16 pm local time and immediately scrambled the search and rescue helicopter.
When the helicopter arrived at the scene of the accident the other crewman had managed to get the casualty back on board and was trying to resuscitate him.
The casualty was then airlifted to Tingwall and transferred to a waiting ambulance to be taken to the Gilbert Bain Hospital, in Lerwick. All attempts to resuscitate him sadly failed.
