News / Nesting caravan site
WORK has begun on a new eight berth caravan site adjacent to the South Nesting hall after Highlands and Islands Enterprise awarded £50,000 towards the project.
The investment will provide caravan hook up points, as well as a toilet and shower room to visitors.
Also part-funded by LEADER, Shetland Islands Council and a contribution from South Nesting Public Hall (SNPH), the project aims at making the area more attractive to tourists.
Once completed in October this year the new facility will be Shetland’s 13th camping and caravan site.
SNPH said the public investment would substantially increase its turnover, which will be reinvested into the public hall to create additional facilities.
Hall committee chairman Ian Smith added: “It will be good to have another income generating aspect to our social enterprise but it’s also great to be able to provide visitors with facilities and the option of using the hall for events including indoor sports during wet weather.”
