Community / Schedule of events released for Nort Natters
A SERIES of activities and conversations aimed at better understanding the needs of communities in Shetland’s North Mainland will be taking place over the next few weeks.
Residents, businesses and those who live, study or work in the area are invited to attend drop-in events to get involved and help shape the future of their area.
Events planned are as follows:
- Saturday 5 November, 1pm–4pm, Brae Fire Station, drop-in event – and to explore the station
- Sunday 6 November, 11am–3pm, Brae Games Hall, Community Sports Hub fayre
- Sunday 6 November, 2.30pm–4.30pm, Bruckland Recycling Centre, Hillswick junction, drop-in event
- Sunday 6 November, 2pm–4.30pm, Aald Skül, Nesting, drop-in event
- Dedicated events in Brae High School and Mossbank Primary School, including a Minecraft event for pupils to draw the future they’d like to see in the North Mainland
People are also invited to have their say using an online survey which opens from today (Monday) until 17 November.
A range of organisations will be supporting Nort Natters by speaking to their communities and service users about life in the North Mainland.
This is part of taking a ‘place-based approach’, which aims to help the council, other organisations and communities to “work in a more efficient, joined-up and collaborative way, so that investment and resources deliver the greatest overall benefit, based on the priorities of communities in the North Mainland”.
Local councillor Tom Morton, however, expressed concern last week about the project and questioned whether it would be a “waste of time”.
