Letters / Unbelievable savings

Shetlander’s might not be aware of this article in  [the UK Government’s minister for Scotland] Iain Stewart’s local paper the Milton Keynes Citizen showing the unbelievable savings that can be made when building subsea inter island tunnels by adopting Boris Johnson’s proposal of switching from Metric to Imperial measurements.

“Mr Stewart said: “I’ve got an open mind – it may not be practical, but given the population sizes are broadly comparable, it seems worth exploring.

He said the tunnels in the Faroe Islands cost about £20 million per kilometre, or £12.5m per mile.
