Election letters 2019 / Time for change

Westminster is broken. The current system of government has failed every single person in this country. Einstein said, “We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them”. It’s time for a change.

The news tells us about a falling GDP, budget deficits and a colossal national debt but trying to fix these has only made it worse. The GDP measures everything except what’s important, like health and happiness.  Cutting down a tree to make furniture increases GDP but reduces quality of life.  It’s time for a change.

A wellbeing economy still recognises the importance of GDP but also includes wellbeing, the health and happiness of the population. This policy naturally includes the climate emergency and sustainability.  After all, happiness includes knowing your children and grandchildren will be happy and healthy too.

So far, only four countries in the world have signed up for a wellbeing economy.  I’m proud to say that Scotland, under the guidance of the SNP, is one of them, along with Iceland, New Zealand and Wales.

At last, we have a government with progressive policies designed to make life worth living by looking beyond the traditional indicators, not just until the next election but for centuries to come.

Vote SNP on 12 December and make the world a better place for you, your children and your children’s children.  It really is time for a change.  Make it so.
