I find it astonishing that Cllr Wills is taking the SIC to task in Edinburgh on overspend, particularly as he has given tacit approval to the biggest gamble with community money on government subsidy ever countenanced in these islands; Viking Energy.
A decision taken in the dying days of the previous council, a decision which denied the Shetland public a Local Public Enquiry and precipitated a costly and unnecessary court battle.
Local democracy may be an unpalatable notion to some of the denizens of the Toon Haa’ but I would suggest ‘Caveat Populus’ (people beware) should not be a guiding principle.
