Letters / Costs more than oil
In reference to the Lerwick district heating scheme, which I have, I am quite happy with its performance.
The initial concept of the scheme was to follow the price of heating oil and stay just under that price, however since late 2014 when the cost of oil started to decline, the district heating tariff has stayed the same 6.6p per Kwh and still remains at this price.
The oil price at the moment, as it has been for over a year, equates to around 4.5p per Kwh at 80 per cent boiler efficiency, therefore saving about 30 per cent compared to district heating.
I have my doubts if anyone would want a district heating connection at the moment and perhaps it is time the board addressed this issue.
