News / Final ferry consultation
COUNCILLORS and public servants are to visit island communities throughout Shetland to complete consultations on future ferry services.
Cuts of around £2.8 million will inevitably impact on the quality and frequency of the service.
Each consultation meeting will kick off with a drop in session to be followed by a more formal public meeting.
Shetland Islands Council environment and transport committee chairman Allan Wishart said they would be “presenting solutions to ensure that the council provides the best service possible within the funds available”.
He stressed: “As this is the last opportunity for comment before the council considers the final reports in December, I’d once more ask for users and island residents to come forward with their views.”
The consultation timetable is:
- Monday 12 Nov: Fair Isle Public Hall – public meeting at 12.15 pm;
- Tuesday 13 Nov: Symbister Hall, Whalsay – drop-in session 6pm, public meeting 7pm;
- Wednesday 14 Nov: Baltasound Hall, Unst – drop-in session 5.30pm, public meeting 6.30 pm;
- Thursday 15 Nov: Mid Yell Hall, Yell – drop-in session 6pm, public meeting 7pm;
- Friday 16 Nov: Bressay Hall – drop-in session 6pm, public meeting 7.15pm;
- Saturday 17 Nov: Skerries Hall – drop-in session 12.30pm, public meeting 1pm;
- Monday 19 Nov: Fetlar Hall – drop in session 6.15pm, public meeting 7.15pm;
- Monday 19 Nov: Papa Stour Hall – public meeting 10am (provisionally).
