News / Three in hospital after helicopter crashes off Bergen
A SMALL privately owned helicopter that refuelled at Sumburgh Airport earlier on Wednesday has crashed into the sea while attempting to land on board a luxury yacht outside the Norwegian city of Bergen.
Three people were rushed to hospital after emergency services were called to the scene at about 9.30pm local time.
One of those on board the Eurocopter AS350 was reported to be seriously injured; two other men escaped with minor injuries.
The Norwegian authorities have launched an investigation into what caused the accident.
The helicopter arrived at Sumburgh from Kirkwall earlier on Wednesday, and can be traced back to the Buckinghamshire town of High Wycombe.
Photos of the incident can be found on the Bergens Tidende website.
