Samaritans’ listening tips

SHETLAND Samaritans is holding an open day at its base in Lerwick’s Charlotte Street this Saturday.

The charity hopes to be able to recruit more listening volunteers. People can call the Samaritans’ helpline on 116123 free of charge any time they need to talk.

It is this simple but powerful connection with another person that is at the heart of the Samaritans’ work.

“The Open Day on 22 June will be an opportunity to chat and find out about what’s involved in becoming a listening volunteer,” a spokesperson for the charity said.

“It’s also a time for anyone who is interested in or supports our work to visit us between 10am and 4pm and say hello.

“Teas, coffees and home bakes will be served. There will be books to take away from our stock.”

Shetland Samaritans added that it continues to be grateful for the financial support it receives from Shetland Charitable Trust and the Shetland public.

“We can’t do this without you. If you can’t visit Linda Rose House on 22 June, there’s   information on how to apply to join or donate to us on our website www.samaritans.org/shetland,” the spokesperson added.
