Community / Wreaths laid on Remembrance Sunday
WREATHS were laid at the war memorial opposite the Lerwick Town Hall earlier to mark Remembrance Sunday.
Those in attendance included Lord Lieutenant Bobby Hunter, Shetland Islands Council convener Malcolm Bell, Northern Isles MP Alistair Carmichael and Shetland MSP Beatrice Wishart.
It comes after the town hall was lit up red in the dark on Friday and Saturday in support of the Poppy Appeal.
This year is the centenary of the poppy as a symbol of remembrance for those who lost their lives during conflict.
Pupils at the Anderson High School in Lerwick also took part in remembrance, with 100 poppies placed in the building’s windows.
Remembrance Sunday takes place on the second Sunday of November each year, nearest to Armistice Day on 11 November when the hostilities of World War One ended in 1918.
