News / Hamnavoe to get 3G
HAMNAVOE is the second community in Shetland that will benefit from Vodafone’s rural open sure signal initiative.
The mobile phone operator announced on Monday that the village on the island of Burra was of 30 rural communities across the UK selected as part of the company’s ‘not spot’ programme ROSS100.
The Westside village of Walls was successfully connected to a Vodafone 3G pilot scheme in June last year.
And in summer this year, the company announced that it was rolling out the scheme to a further 100 communities in the UK plagued by unreliable mobile coverage.
The company said that with the installation of sure signal technology the local community would benefit from high quality 3G voice services, and much needed access to the internet via mobile devices, contributing positively to business and everyday life.
Vodafone added that depending on further assessment and planning permissions, where required, the service should go live during 2015.
