Scottish Independence Debate / Yes campaigners host Lerwick street party
LOCAL artists campaigning for a Yes vote in next week’s independence referendum are staging a street party in Lerwick town centre on Saturday afternoon.
National Collective Shetland is hosting the event, which comes five days before the long-awaited referendum, between 1pm and 5pm.
It will feature music from artists including Chloe Robertson, Magnus Stout and friends, Kirsty North, Marie Williamson and more.
There will be a tent displaying contributed artwork and writing inspired by the independence movement, a Yes photo booth, facepainting, an Indy Wish Tree where folk can write down their hopes for an independent Scotland and the opportunity for discussion.
Louise Thomason of National Collective Shetland said: “There are only a few days to go until the referendum and while lots of folk have made up their minds, some are still undecided.
“We wanted to create an environment that might encourage people to be able to ask questions and talk about their concerns in a friendly setting, and to have some fun in amongst all the debating.
“Everyone will be welcome, No voters included, and if anyone would like to get involved by either busking, or contributing writing or art, they can do so via the Facebook page or by emailing nationalcollectiveshetland@gmail.com.”
