THE GROUP behind plans to regenerate the Tingwall glasshouse is holding a film night followed by a discussion at Shetland Museum and Archives on Friday evening.
Transition Shetland is currently preparing to compile a feasibility study into turning the huge, empty glasshouse near Tingwall airport into a large scale community growing project.
Friday’s event will feature the extraordinary film In Transition 2.0 looking at communities around the world who are facing up to an uncertain future by building up their resilience to unexpected shocks.
The film heads to Christchurch in New Zealand after the earthquake, Japan after Fukushima and the barrios of Brazil, as well as highlighting plenty of creative endeavours in the UK.
The Transition movement is the fastest growing environmental movement in the world, because it takes a practical and fun approach to tackling some of the bigger challenges facing us all – peak oil, resource depletion, economic hardship and climate change.
After the film the Transition Shetland group will lead a discussion about how the islands might do the same.
Emma Perring and Maggie Sandison will also be there to talk about their exciting project to encourage predominantly young people to grow their own food.
The evening starts at 7pm and the film lasts for about one hour, leaving plenty of time for talking afterwards.
Entry is free but donations towards the cost of the evening will be very welcome.
