News / Cash back gigs
JOHNNY Cash fans are in for a treat next month when top Scottish singer songwriter Dean Owens performs two concerts based around his new album tribute to The Man in Black.
Edinburgh-based Owens, already a star in Shetland, will be joined by local guitarist Arthur Nicolson of First Foot Soldiers on stage at Lerwick’s Mareel on 1 March and Mid Yell hall the following night.
The concerts are part of his tour of his latest album Cash Back (Songs I Learned From Johnny) was released last November to huge critical acclaim.
Owens said he had been wanting to make this record for a long time, and the year that would have been Cash’s 80th birthday seemed to be the right time.
Mareel marketing officer Lisa Ward said the Yell gig showed how Mareel could help attract big name artists to play in country areas, “making great live music more accessible to all in Shetland”.
The local support act has yet to be announced, but tickets go on sale at 2pm on Friday 8 February at www.mareel.org or www.shetlandboxoffice.org, at Mareel or Islesburgh or on 01595 745555.
