News / Folk fest voted event of the year
SHETLAND Folk Festival was voted ‘Event of the Year’ at the MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards, in Perth, on Saturday night.
It was the world famous festival’s second attempt at the trophy after missing out on the very first award in 2003.
The gala concert at Perth Concert Hall featured Shetland performers Fullsceilidh Spelemannslag and Jenna Reid, alongside island regulars like Phil Cunningham and The Chair.
The winners were chosen by public vote with the poll closing on 19 November.

Shetland Folk Festival co-founder Dr Tom Anderson has also been entered the Scots Traditional Musical Hall of Fame for his impact on the traditional musical landscape over the past 30 years.
