News / Fish landings’ volume and value up
SHETLAND has retained its position as the second most important port for fish landings in Scotland.
Statistics show that in 2010 a total of 90,590 tonnes of fish (up 16 per cent compared to 2009) with a value of £82.3 million (up 12 per cent) were landed at various ports in Shetland.
This accounts for just under one quarter of the weight and one fifth of the value of all fish landed in Scotland. Peterhead continues to be the most important Scottish fishing port.
A total of 13,952 tonnes of white fish worth £22.7 million were landed, while pelagic vessels brought ashore 74,394 tonnes of fish worth £53.6 million. Meanwhile 2,244 tonnes of shellfish landed were worth £5.9 million.
