News / Double Rotary award
SHETLAND Rotary Club has received two awards for its work supporting young volunteers in the islands.
During the organisation’s bi-annual cheese and wine evening, district governor George Berstan handed the vocational service quaich to former club president Martin Nicolson for the club’s support of the Shetland Youth Voluntary Awards.
The Rotary Club of Shetland received two major awards , the Vocational Service Quaich and the District Governor’s Citation, on Friday night at Lerwick Town Hall for their work in supporting and recognising young volunteers within Shetland.
He then surprised the club with a second award – this one they can keep – which recognises the club to do the most impressive work in the eyes of the district governor.
Mr Berstan is governor of District 1010, the largest by area in the UK, covering the whole of Scotland north of Stirling, containing 88 clubs with 3,000 members.
