THE SEARCH for missing local woman Lorraine Grains resumed on Friday morning.
The 43 year old was reported missing from her home in Laxo, near Vidlin, on Thursday afternoon.
An extensive search team involving the police, the Lerwick lifeboat, the coastguard helicopter, voluntary coastguard teams from Baltasound, Hillswick, Lerwick and Sumburgh was stood down on Thursday as darkness fell.
The postie is well known in the area. She is described as white, about five foot two in height and of slim build.
She has long purple hair and is believed to be wearing black leggings or jeans and a long black overcoat.
Police said they were very concerned for her welfare and urged anybody who may be able to offer any information about her current whereabouts to contact Lerwick police station on telephone 101.
They have also thanked a number of Shetland residents have volunteered their assistance with the search.
Inspector Martyn Brill said: “I would ask if you do want to volunteer your help then make sure you are well equipped, wearing suitable clothing and prepared for the conditions.
“I know everyone offering their help is doing so with the best of intentions but we do not want people to put themselves at risk. If anyone finds anything you think is notable, then please leave it in place and inform police or coastguard personnel.”
Meanwhile the takeaway night in the Vidlin Hall on Friday has been cancelled due to the ongoing emergency situation.
