Letters / Medics series very well received
We hope you have all been managing to watch the Island Medics programme that has been on BBC1 each day for the last fortnight. If not you can catch up on BBC iPlayer.
This programme has showcased some of our excellent staff and those from the other emergency services going about their every day work.
We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who agreed to be filmed, particularly the patients who were willing to share their stories, along with all the others who helped in producing the programme.
The series seems to have been very well received and has given us an opportunity to show Shetland as the beautiful place it is and the skills and dedication of our staff. We certainly hope that this will have given the Shetland community a greater insight into our service but that this may also help us to attract new staff and their families to Shetland.

Shetland News is asking its many readers to consider start paying for their dose of the latest local news delivered straight to their PC, tablet or mobile phone.
Journalism comes at a price and because that price is not being paid in today’s rapidly changing media world, most publishers - national and local - struggle financially despite very healthy audience figures.
Most online publishers have started charging for access to their websites, others have chosen a different route. Shetland News currently has over 600 supporters who are all making small voluntary financial contributions. All funds go towards covering our cost and improving the service further.
Your contribution will ensure Shetland News can: -
- Bring you the headlines as they happen;
- Stay editorially independent;
- Give a voice to the community;
- Grow site traffic further;
- Research and publish more in-depth news, including more Shetland Lives features.
