Letters / Halls of Residence charge outrageous
As an ex-resident of Bruce Hostel and an ex-houseparent of Janet Courtney, I have spent many happy years in the bosom of a caring environment. With this in mind, I think the proposed charge by SIC of £25 per week for residents of the Janet Courtney Halls of Residence is outrageous and inappropriate!
It is doubtful that parents of more than one child would be able to afford to provide them the privilege of a higher education if these charges come into place.
Not only have the SIC forced rural schools to close, they are now knocking another nail into the coffin of rural communities…. Do weel and persevere….. these young people are the future of our islands. Please treat them with the respect they deserve. Not everyone wants to stay in the town, but perhaps a few more will become exiles due to the current economic decline…. sad days!
At this rate no one will be able to afford a day trip to the wonderful Mareel that SIC are frittering their money on!
