News / CAB celebrates 25 years
THE LOCAL office of the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) will celebrate 25 years of offering information and advice to people across the isles on Tuesday.
Volunteers and staff past and present will be gathering along with local funders and supporters for a presentation by Carol Greer, Citizens Advice Scotland’s Highlands and Islands development officer, on the achievements of the bureau.
Shetland Islands Council is recognising the anniversary by lighting up Lerwick Town Hall’s clock in CAB “blue” for the week.
Local MSP Tavish Scott said: “Shetland’s CAB is an invaluable group of people working for those less fortunate across our islands.
“I have enjoyed working with CAB over many years both to help individuals and on their campaigns across many public services and benefits that people need. If Shetland’s CAB did not exist we would need to invent it.”
All are welcome to attend Shetland CAB’s AGM, which starts at 5.30pm in Market House on Tuesday (22 August) and will be followed by a buffet.
CAB Shetland’s annual report for 2016/17 will be presented, highlighting the bureau’s achievements over the last year including numbers of people assisted, a breakdown of the nature of enquiries, and the financial gains achieved for clients.
