News / First beer festival to raise money for Relay for Life
THE FIRST beer festival to be held in Shetland is set to take place in Lerwick later this month.
The event will be held at the Gilbertson Park games hall on 18 and 19 August and it will raise money for next year’s Cancer Research UK Relay for Life.
Punters will be able to try out a number of beers and ciders at the festival, with local brewers, distillers and suppliers involved.
On the agenda will be craft beers, “real ale and locally brewed products, alongside more familiar brands”.
Thistly Cross cider, Shetland Reel Gin and Lerwick Brewery will be on hand to keep attendees refreshed, while suppliers Beervana and J.W. Gray will also help out.
It will run from 5.30pm to half past midnight on the first night, while on the Saturday it will be open between 1-6pm and then 7pm to 12.30am.
The Saturday afternoon will also feature children’s entertainment and a barbecue, while live music from a host of local acts will also be on offer over the two days.
The Friday will see The Bashies, Vair, The U-Turns, Mirka and GTL Disco perform.
Sheila Henderson, Brian Morrison, Loveshack, David Bisset and DJ Lyndon Nicolson will take to the stage the following the day,
Regional fundraising manager for Cancer Research UK in Scotland Louise Robertson commented: “On behalf of Cancer Research UK I would like to thank the Shetland Relay For Life committee for organising this fundraising festival.
“I would also like to thank in advance the incredibly generous Shetland community for supporting it and for their continued support of Cancer Research UK in general.”
Tickets can be bought now from the Shetland Arts box office or via local Relay for Life committee chairman Martin Henderson on shetlandrelaychair@yahoo.co.uk.
Tickets will be available on the door if they have not sold out.
