Letters / Shame on Scots minister

It is very clear that the Scottish nationalist government minister Fergus Ewing has learned nothing from the last 305 years since the Act of Union and the domination of all Scotland’s affairs by its bullying and sometimes brutal neighbor England (Britain. It was rule by decree, from the press gangs that stole wir men, tae the highland and island clearances that stole wir land, the organised deportation (emigration) of wir young women to the colonies especially Australia, all organised and supported by lairds.*

Kirks and her majesty’s government! Has anything really changed since? The decrees have shifted tae the devolved parliament in Edinburgh. Shetland folk have a right to be outraged at the actions of minister Ewing. The meeting at Tingwall in its call for a judicial enquiry should be supported and taken to the European court if necessary. Rosa Steppanova’s brave and timely gate crash of the so called community trustees meeting should be applauded; the time for being polite is over when control of wir community future funds are in the hands of some of the most conniving, self-interested councillors (trustees).

The puppet masters in the boardrooms of Scottish & Southern Energy and likeminded energy corporations must be laughing; they have such loyal servants doing there bidding. Folk in Shetland should unite tae protect da Lang Kames and stand in solidarity with the folk who are going to be affected by the Viking Energy wind factory. some of the most rare and beautiful birds on the planet are also to be sacrificed to avarice.

The outcome would be that individuals who already are some of the wealthiest add to their personal estate, and the Shetland future fund plays with more money on the stock exchanges of the world. The nightmare image of Shetland as depicted on a Paul Bloomer print would become a reality.

We should all become gate crashers, picketers, blockaders, sit-downers, stand-uppers, armlockers, and environmental activists. A worldwide call to protect wir hame should begin.

Shame on the MSP Tavish Scott whose silence is always deafening. But most of all shame on first minister Alec Salmond; your allies here are no friends of the people of Scotland or Shetland, their only friend is penga. (money)

Yours in solidarity
