News / Don’t drive and phone
POLICE in Shetland are reminding local drivers that the fines for using a mobile phone while driving will rise significantly from Wednesday (1 March).
Drivers who have held their licence for less than two years could even be banned from the road, they warn.
Acting inspector Douglas Livitt said the penalty for using a mobile phone or hand-held device whilst driving would double from a £100 fine and three penalty points to £200 and six penalty points.
“For new or young drivers who have held their licence for less than two years and are caught for such an offence, this could result in you losing your licence,” he said.
