News / Charity colour run
SHETLAND’s first colour run will take place later this year in aid of the MS Society after the charity overcame months of insurance hurdles to host the event.
The Messy Slester Fun Run will be held around the Spiggie Loch on 11 September to raise money and awareness for MS Society Shetland.
Colour runs involve biodegradable powdered paint being thrown at the competitors before and during the run, with events proving popular across the globe.
Having initially wanted to host the run in 2014, MS Society Shetland got the go-ahead earlier this year after “lots of correspondence” between the branch, its insurers and the charity’s head office following issues with the adding the paint element to the event.
Participants will be able to cover distances of 10k, 5k or 2.5k and people can “walk, skip, jog or run”, although a shield is being made for the winner.
Four “paint stops” will be manned on the route by people who will throw powder at the runners.
Three minibuses have been booked to transport participants to each starting point, with refreshments set to be available in the Boddam Hall.
There is no age limit, with children aged under three available to take part for free.
