News / Prayers for those in Syria
AN EVENT will be held in Lerwick later this month to allow locals of all faiths to pray for those affected by the conflict in Syria.
Millions of people have been displaced in the war-torn country, leading to a migrant crisis in the EU that mushroomed in 2015.
Many of those affected are lacking basic needs such as shelter, food and water.
Shetland Inter Faith is holding an event at Lerwick’s St Magnus Episcopal Church on 18 May to allow the public to pray for those involved in the crisis.
Readings and music performances will also take place, with proceedings kicking off at 7.30pm.
Shetland Inter Faith committee member David Marsh said: “People from the different faith traditions in Shetland will offer prayers, readings and music, to help us all to reflect on this terrible situation and to support one another as we each find our own ways to express our concern and care for those in great need.”
