PRODUCTION at one of the North Sea’s oldest oil platforms has been shut down for around week after a power failure on Thursday.
Almost 30 non essential crew were evacuated from the Brent Charlie platform run by Shell 116 miles north east of Lerwick, leaving about 120 on the rig.
The company said it was still investigating the cause of the power failure, but power has been restored using a single generator and the remaining workforce is taking advantage of the downtime to carry out maintenance work.
A Shell spokesman said: “Production will resume in a few days time and the platform will be fully manned when the next shift change is due, which I believe is next week.”
Brent Charlie, which started producing in 1976, pipes oil to Sullom Voe terminal, but is not expected to operate for much longer.
