News / Escaped cow caught on film checking out Bigton toilets
A CURIOUS cow has become something of an online hit after it was filmed checking out the public toilets in Bigton following a brief escape from a farm.
The animal was captured on camera by Yvette Hopkins, who works as a volunteer at the Bigton Community Shop across the road from the toilets, and shared on Facebook.
The one-year-old female heifer nipped into the gents on Wednesday afternoon before heading back towards its farm.
Thankfully there was no-one in the toilets at the time.
“I was doing my volunteer time at the shop and I was ringing somebody up and the person said ‘I think a cow just went down the street’,” Yvette said.
“I went outside and sure enough the cow was just frolicking about.
“I caught her as she was coming out, and she ran down the road and went right back to the farm.”
Award-winning sisters Kirsty and Aimee Budge, who run Bigton Farm, said the cow was not out for long and was helped back by a neighbour.
A spokesperson for Shetland Islands Council, which owns the toilets, said: “We cater for all users and, you’ll be pleased to hear, regularly clean and check our toilets.”
