A MAN narrowly avoided going to hospital after being treated for minor injuries at the scene of a flat fire in Virkie on Wednesday evening.
Appliances from Sandwick and Lerwick were called to the building in Horseshoe Close at 7.40pm after reports of a smoke alarm going off.
Damage was confined to the kitchen and the fire was extinguished using one hose reel jet.
Breathing apparatus was also used. The fire was under control at around 8.30pm.
