Whilst on a walk to the Sands Of Sound beach on a beautiful winters day, just a couple of weeks ago, I could not believe the disgusting sight of bags upon bags of dog waste just dumped at the side of the gate.
I had to guide my little boy well clear of the disgusting mess. Surely something can be done to put a bin closer to the beach.
Patti Dinsdale of Shetland Islands Council's environmental health responded: "The Sands of Sound road and the land access to the beaches are private property and so Shetland Islands Council is unable to provide bins or clear litter and dog waste in this area.
"In the past, the council has placed signs near the access paths to remind walkers and dog owners that the land is private land. Dog owners and others using the beach should take their waste home with them or place in a council litter bin.
"The council can take action if dog fouling was witnessed, as the legislation permits us to take enforcement action in this instance."
