Tug Operator



  • Ensure safe-working practices at all times.
  • Participate in daily toolbox talks and any other toolbox talk that may be required – ensuring all relevant. Personnel are fully aware of the job task prior to commencement of work.
  • Empowered to “stop the job” if an action is considered unsafe and report to line supervisor.
  • To carry out the daily checks on the allocated tug master and ensure the vehicle is fit for purpose.
  • When asked, to carry out the daily checks on the forklift before use.
  • To load / unload the trailers as per VOSA rules the equipment must be loaded and secured suitable for onward delivery
  • To ensure that all paperwork ascertaining to the loaded trailer is accurate and placed in the pocket of the trailer for onward delivery.
  • Removing and fitting the securing equipment from various trailers being loaded with backload or being taken into the quayside for shipping to onward destinations.
  • Operate the forklift as and when required and carry out any daily inspections to ensure the forklift is fit for use.
  • Carry out Banksman duties as and when required
  • Ensure effective communications with Line Supervisor as and when required.
  • Comply with all relevant company work instructions and procedures for each job function. Suggest any improvements to improve service delivery and amend work instructions.
  • To take an active part in the weekly yard inspection and report any imperfections.
  • When trucks are live loading at the quayside to help the driver secure the load for onward road travel.
  • To report all damage done or seen to the supervisor immediately.
  • To carry out any task the Peterson Management deem you suitable to carry out without detrement to yourself.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Previous knowledge of working as a tug master (desirable)
  • Manual Handling
  • Forklift Licence up to 16 ton (desirable)
  • Opito Banksman/Slinger cert (desirable)
  • ADR (desirable)
