This course provides the basic theoretical knowledge and practical hand-on experience of marine diesel engines and systems necessary to meet the requirements of the MCA’s Codes of Practice for the safety of:
- Small Workboats & Pilot Boats
- Small Commercial Motor Vessels
- Large Commercial Sailing & Motor Vessels
Certain circumstances defined in these Codes of Practice require that “One of the persons … (employed aboard) … should be familiar with the operation and maintenance of the main propulsion and associated machinery of the vessel and should have attended a suitable course.”
Please note that if you intend to work on a larger vessel (>24 metres) you may require additional qualifications, including STCW basic safety qualifications.
This course is not suitable for fishing vessel engineers who require different qualifications (see our Fishing Courses).
