Can you work well as part of a team offering a warm welcome to our passengers and providing them with excellent customer service as they make their journey through our airport?  Are you passionate about making your workplace a safe yet enjoyable place to visit? If so, this position may be for you. We are expanding our team to improve the service that we deliver and therefore have an opportunity for you to join us at Sumburgh Airport.

Key information:

  • Current starting salary is £26,999 progressing to £27,619.
  • On top of this you are entitled to a Shetland Island Allowance of £2,163 per annum.
  • This role requires you to work on a shift basis which includes weekends. When working on a shift basis, a shift premium applies at a rate of 12.5%.
  • You will work weekend shifts which attract weekend premiums – time and a half on Saturday, and double time on Sunday. This currently ranges from £4,357 to £4,469 per annum.
  • Other benefits include 28.5 days annual leave per year, increasing to 33.5 after 5 years’ service.
  • An entitlement of 8 public holidays each year which can be used alongside your annual leave entitlement.

  • Staff benefits programme.

Some important things you need to know are:

  • There are physical elements to this role so you need to be prepared to spend a lot of time on your feet, whilst also bending, reaching and lifting bags.
  • You’ll need to be comfortable searching passengers by hand* – sometimes this will be colleagues or other people you know. You’ll also need to have normal colour vision as the role involves viewing an X-ray.
  • Various background checks, including a Criminal Records Check, will be carried out before you can start.

You’ll be the first point of contact helping passengers and customers so patience, good interpersonal and communication skills are key.  You’ll also ensure all processes and procedures are followed correctly. You’ll be representing the airport at all times so a smart and professional appearance is crucial – we will provide you with full uniform to wear at all times.
