The 4 year apprenticeship consists of a combination of college hours and on the job experience, leading to an SVQ/NVQ Level 3 (SCQF6) in Engineering Maintenance (Mechanical).

On a typical day, you could find yourself working alongside our experienced engineers to:

  • Carry out routine maintenance on DH Marine plant and equipment at the Sullom Voe and Shetland Gas Plant terminals
  • Diagnose and repair faults on a marine propulsion system on board a fishing vessel
  • Repair and maintain customers’ equipment in the DH Marine workshops
  • Carry out a major over haul on an engine in-situ, removing, cleaning and replacing worn items such as bearings, valves and seals as necessary

If you are a keen and enthusiastic individual, have a ‘can do’ attitude and a strong desire to succeed then you should apply!

Modern Apprenticeship funding is available for young people ages 16-19 years of age. (Some places may be available for 20+ years of age)

To apply you will need to complete an application form and send it to Train Shetland (do not send forms directly to DH Marine). Forms are available at our office or on the below details.
