Community / Apprentices recognised
THIRTY five people who completed apprenticeships this year were honoured at Train Shetland’s annual awards ceremony on Wednesday.
The apprentices completed vocational qualifications like SVQs and diplomas, with Train Shetland offering courses in areas like hairdressing, agriculture, care, construction and warehousing.
Shetland College board chairman Peter Campbell said: “Shetland Islands Council is very much committed to providing young people in particular with the opportunity to receive high quality training which will enable them to remain in the islands and contribute to the economic performance of their own community.
“The council views the apprenticeship programme as an important part of its strategy. Apprenticeships enable well-trained and skilled workers to be part of the council’s workforce and assist the council in delivering an excellent service to the Shetland community.”
