Community / South mainland projects need your vote
OVER 20 organisations will vie for funding at a participatory budgeting event due to be held in the South Mainland this weekend.
A total of £30,000 will be distributed to successful projects at the Shet£and South Decides event at the Cunningsburgh Hall on Saturday.
The public are invited to head to the hall at any time between 1pm and 4pm to vote for their favourite projects.
The event is being hosted by the community councils for Gulberwick, Quarff and Cunningsburgh, Dunrossness and Sandwick.
Organiser Kerry Geddes said “We are delighted with the communities’ response to applications for funding and the range and quality of projects.
“Over 20 organisations from across the community have applied with requests totalling over £100,000.”
Dunrossness community councillor Raymond Mainland added: “The last event was a huge success with over 300 attendees.
“We hope the public response will be as good this time. After all it is the public who decides who will be successful.”
The vote is open to all ages and refreshments will available thanks to the Levenwick Hall committee.
