Court / Man fined £420 after admitting cannabis charges

A MAN from Scalloway has been fined £420 after he admitted being concerned in the supply of cannabis, as well as growing the drug.

Yan-Erik Iversen, of Craigpark Road, admitted at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Tuesday to carrying out the offences at his home between 4 October 2019 and 3 January this year.

The court heard the supply was on a “social” basis among friends.

Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie told the court that police officers found a “very small cultivation” when undertaking a search warrant at Iversen’s home, which amounted to two plants.

Checks on a mobile phone seized during the search also led to the charge of supply.

Defence agent Tommy Allan said his 43 years old client had used cannabis for pain relief.

While the cultivation was for himself, Allan said Iversen accepted he was involved in a “chain of supply” to a couple of friends who shared the class B drug between them.

Allan said there was no financial gain involved.

Sheriff Ian Cruickshank fined £300 for the supply charge and £120 for the production offence, and granted forfeiture of the items seized by police.
