Court / Sheriff court round-up – 9 October 2019

A MAN from Lerwick was released on bail after appearing from custody at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

Twenty four year old Kristian Georgiev appeared in private accused of breaching a bail condition.

He made no plea and was committed for further examination.

AN EIGHTY five year old former RAF pilot has been given a £160 fine and three penalty points after admitting driving without due care and attention earlier this year.

David Edmondston, from Baltasound, appeared at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Wednesday to plead guilty to the offence, which took place in the village on 25 January.

He admitted failing to give way or slow down for an oncoming vehicle at a time when his vision was impaired by low sunlight, which resulted in a collision.

Defence agent Tommy Allan said the incident took place at a point where a double carriageway met a single track road.

The solicitor said Edmondston has had a driving licence since 1956, had never had a collision and was a first offender.

Allan said his client had been an RAF pilot for 30 years – as well as a former Loganair pilot – and is “someone who is careful about the operation of machinery” at all times.

A WOMAN from North Roe has been given a £200 fine and three penalty points after admitting driving without due care or attention in August.

Fiona Laurenson, of Mid Gard, executed an overtaking manoeuvre directly into the path of a following car which was also overtaking on the Tingwall straight on 4 August.

The following car required to take evasive action to avoid a collision with her vehicle.

Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said the incident occurred at around 1.45pm, with the 47-year-old failing to check her mirror.

Defence agent Kathryn Gordon said Laurenson drives on the road every day and was “embarrassed” by the offence.
