“IS THIS the real life, is it just fantasy?” sang the Freddie Mercury impersonator on stage at Mareel on Friday night.
The sold-out crowd probably weren’t quite so sure as tribute band Queen II did a pretty sterling job at replicating the iconic rockers’ trademarks riffs and soaring vocals.
Tracks like Don’t Stop Me Now and finale We Are The Champions got the giddy audience – many of which were on a Christmas night out – singing in enthusiastic unison, while Bohemian Rhapsody was a highlight too.
Tribute bands can be a little corny, but taken with a pinch of salt and a festive tipple or two, Queen II were a whole lot of fun as the party season truly kicked off.
