News / Globe to shut
TEN PEOPLE are to lose their jobs after Globe Butchers owner Keith Moffat confirmed that its Lerwick shop is to close at the end of March.
Moffat has worked at the shop for over three decades and was the fourth generation of the family to inherit a business which has been running since 1893.
He told BBC Radio Shetland it had not been an easy decision, but stressed the closure was not related to competition from the town’s two supermarkets and was for reasons he did not wish to disclose.
The popular butcher on Commercial Road is a member of the Q guild, which certifies high quality meat sellers throughout the UK.
From 29 March, when the Globe shuts its doors, there will only be a solitary butcher – J.K. Mainland on Commercial Street – remaining in Lerwick.
