PETER Blanker’s new novel 'When Rats Eat the Fat', published by Shetland Heritage Publications, will be launched at the Shetland Museum and Archives on Saturday at 2pm.
Originally written in Dutch, the book was translated by the author, edited by Brian Shetland Amenity Trust chairman Gregson, and illustrated by Ron Sandford.
The story is based on a series of true events from March 1653 when a ship of the Dutch East India Company wrecked on the coast of Yell.
The novel tells the story of the cause of the disaster, the efforts of the sailors to return to Amsterdam, as well as the hospitality of the islanders and the hostilities among the stranded Dutch sailors.
The event will be marked by performances from Da ShantYYellmen who will sing a selection of sea shanties, accompanied by the author.
