Bigton folk form community enterprise

| Written by Shetland News

RESIDENTS in the Bigton area are being invited to become shareholders in a new community enterprise that has been formed to take on the ownership of the local shop.

Bigton Community Enterprise Ltd has now been formally registered with the Financial Services Authority.

Chairman of the interim management committee, local councillor Rick Nickerson said: “Now that the registration step is complete we will be able to open a bank account which will allow us to start fund raising.

“My personal belief is that there is a strong will within this community to support this enterprise and with that support it can become a valuable community asset.”

A copy of the business plan can be obtained from the organisation's secretary Audrey Mullay by phoning 01950 422209 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Those wishing to support the initiative should return their share issue purchase form to the treasurer by the 30 November.
