Image: Met Office. Image: Met Office. AS STORM Ali, the first gale of the season, approaches Shetland, ferry and air services are affected by winds gusting up to 75 mph.

08:00 - Inter-island ferry services are slowly getting back to normal; on Yell Sound a single ferry service is in operation, the Whalsay ferry service is to Vidlin.

18:45 - Whalsay and Bluemull Sound services suspended, Yell Sound service likely to be suspended later tonight. For further info call 01595 743972

16:30 – Some streets in Lerwick, including Commercial Street, were temporarily flooded due to the heavy downpours

16:10 – Loganair has confirmed that air services from Glasgow and Edinburgh have resumed again following suspensions.

15:00 - The inter islands ferry service across Yell Sound will be reduced to a single vessel service as of 3pm due to high winds.

The southbound NorthLink service to Orkney and Aberdeen will leave Lerwick already at 4pm instead of the scheduled 5.30pm. The freight vessel Arrow has had its Lerwick to Aberdeen sailing cancelled.

At Sumburgh airport is experiencing delays mainly due to weather related disruptions at mainland airports. The afternoon flight from Edinburgh was cancelled.
