Cleeves to head north to launch final Perez book

| Written by Shetland News

Ann Cleeves Ann Cleeves AUTHOR Ann Cleeves is set to visit Shetland next month as she bids farewell to detective inspector Jimmy Perez.

The writer is releasing her final Shetland crime novel Wild Fire on 6 September.

The series' characters inspired the BBC drama Shetland and as a result there is big interest in the fate of Perez and co.

Cleeves will launch the book at the Lerwick Town Hall on the evening of 5 September, where local musician Cathy Geldard will premiere her bespoke piece A Tune For Jimmy Perez.

Shetland Distillery Company has also produced a special edition Wild Fire gin for the night and will launch it at the town hall.

The writer will also speak at the Baltasound Community Library in Unst on 4 September at 7pm, as well as host a drop-in at the Whalsay Secondary School Library a day later from 1pm to 2pm.

Both of those events are free and they include book signings.

Shetland Library manager Karen Fraser said Cleeves, who has often launched books in the isles, is a "great ambassador for libraries, and for the islands".

Cleeves said that she will "always be grateful to Shetlanders for their support and generosity and I can't wait to be back in September to thank them properly".

"She has worked closely with the television process, helping to set up good contacts and locations," Fraser added.

"Fans will be sad to hear the books are coming to an end (and dying to know if Ann will give Jimmy a happy or tragic ending), but will be delighted that the television series continues.

"Ann always likes to see as many folk as possible when she's in Shetland so she will be doing events at our Unst and Whalsay libraries as well as the main launch in Lerwick Town Hall.'

Tickets are available for the Town Hall event via the Shetland Arts box office priced at £4. Copies of the book will be on sale, and Cleeves will be available to sign them too.
