Exhibition to explore landscape and body

| Written by Shetland News

AN EXPLORATION of the "bond between the landscape and the body through painting, drawing, film and spoken word" is set to go on show in Lerwick from this weekend.

Amy Gear's exhibition Cliff Face will take place at Shetland Museum's Da Gadderie from 11 August to 16 September.

The spoken word pieces and large scale paintings are said to weave together a "feminist mythological story" with a current non-fiction narrative.

A spokesman for Da Gadderie said that stories of sacrifice are embedded in the works as the female characters stiffen and eventually turn to stone, each time they are spoken down to, or questioned.

Gear, who lives and works in Shetland, has an MA in printmaking from the Royal College of Art in London.

She helped to launch local not-for-profit arts organisation GAADA earlier this year.
