| Written by Shetland News

A TALENTED young group of traditional Shetland musicians are launching their debut album in the run-up to Christmas.

Fjanna's album ROUTE 970 will be unveiled at an event in The Grand Hotel on Lerwick's Commercial Street on Friday 15 December.

The group, consisting of Josie Smith, 15, on fiddle, Mike Laurenson, 15, on accordion, Arran Philip, 16, on drums and pipes and Anya Johnston, 14, on fiddle and piano, have been described by local music legend Violet Tulloch as "very talented Shetland musicians now much in demand".

They have put together a recording of traditional Scottish and Shetland sets, including some of their own compositions. The youngsters will be selling and signing copies of the CD at the Grand Hotel as well as performing live to give those in attendance a taster of the impressive album.
