Went looking for alcohol

| Written by Shetland News

A MAN from Scalloway who was found in two properties in East Voe looking for alcohol has been placed under supervision for 18 months.

John Johnson, of Undirhoull, previously admitted being in a garden shed and a house at Hogalee without lawful authority on 23 January, with it being inferred that he intended to commit theft.

Defence agent Tommy Allan told Lerwick Sheriff Court on Tuesday that the 42 year old was someone who was well-qualified but allowed "drink to get the better of him".

He said Johnson, who was shocked by his behaviour, was "desperately trying to get back into rehab".

Sheriff Philip Mann told Johnson that the offences were a "desperate attempt on your part to try to find alcohol to fuel your considerable difficulty".

In addition to the supervision, the sheriff ordered the 42 year old to comply with social work recommendations relating to the treatment of his alcohol addiction.
