The money was donated by Shetland Special Needs Action Group (SSNAG) to the centre's Hansel Fund, which pays for extra resources.

Eric Gray Resource Centre has been providing specialist day services for adults with learning disabilities, autistic spectrum disorders and complex needs for nearly 40 years.

A new building is currently being built near the existing premises at Seafield, in Lerwick.

The centre's team leader Connie Russell said: "On behalf of all those who use our service, I would like to thank members of SSNAG for their generous donation to the Hansel Fund for the replacement centre.

"We're grateful for their support to allow us to obtain more resources that will benefit those who will use the new building."

Eric Gray service users have formed a group with the aim to generate cash for the fund through events such as Sunday teas and sponsored walks.

User Dylan McDougal will also be hosting a pop up shop at Toll Clock Shopping Centre on 17 June to raise funds.
