As part of the Considerate Construction scheme, Morrison Construction is one of many companies working on improving the industry's image by reaching out to the community.

Tthe scheme's two mascots, Ivor Goodsite and Honor Goodsite, also travelled to the Unst and Yell junior high schools to entertain and educate pupils.

Anderson High School project director Mark Clarke said reaching out to the community was part of the Morrison's corporate social responsibility.

"We think by using the characters that come with the Constructive Construction scheme we get the opportunity to both engage with schools and children but also to entertain them," he said.

"The events that we have organised included a slide show about the new school and the halls of residence. It also had various games and exercises that linked to the construction industry.

"We are trying to promote the industry and an interest in the industry – so we talked with pupils about architecture and civil engineering, and the opportunities that lay in both."

The construction team hopes to visit Fair Isle next weekend to introduce the new school to islanders.

Meanwhile, Shetland Islands Council has started making preparations for the move from the old to the new AHS, scheduled to take place in the October break.

The council is currently looking for interested contractors that wish to be considered for the relocation of furniture, equipment and resources from the existing school and halls of residence at The Knab to the new site at lower Staney Hill.
